I have long visited the news site - Upside Down World - for insights into the current political situation in Latin America. Not the kind of politics that grabs headlines in international or even national television and newspapers, but the kind of politics that actually affects people's lives. The site is a grassroots journalism venture, meaning that it publishes news stories investigated by independent journalists from all over Latin America. They report on corruption, government policies that have stirred up public protest, environmental sustainability problems, natural resource (mis)management, and all the news on social activism you could want but not get from mainstream news sites.
This is a very courageous venture that fulfills a critical need for information about what is really going down in Latin America. These journalists are very brave citizens, and report on issues that deserve to be debated on as prominent a global platform as possible.
At this time, they are asking for financial support so I thought I would do my bit by passing on their request.

Whether you donate funds or not, I would request that you take a look at some of their news stories by visiting their website. You will definitely be impressed by the depth of their journalistic investigation, moved by the political struggles they highlight, and angered by the unfairness of a social system whereby people need to fight hard even for basic human rights.
Until next time,
